In the late 1990s, the mature and accessible World Wide Web revolutionized how businesses and customers interact, causing massive disruption for unprepared companies in the ".com era." A decade later, The Mobility Revolution dramatically changed the accessibility and convenience of that model, and again, companies scrambled to meet those market demands. We now find ourselves in a third revolution, which transports all those capabilities into an immersive experience powered through Augmented and Virtual Reality.
The Metaverse Demystified
The “Metaverse” is the next-generation Internet transformed to an “Inter net-of-Experiences” that supports persistent co-presence within the spectrum of a blended physical and digital world. Extended Reality, or “XR,” technology is the enabler of these new forms of immersive digital experiences. XR technology capabilities include augmented reality (AR) and fully immersive virtual reality (VR) interface platforms, and these interfaces will be the building blocks necessary for entering and/or creating the Metaverse.
Who is using the Metaverse today?
In the immediate term, XR Platforms are leading the next wave of computing, leveraging both conventional, personal computing and spatial computing to provide powerful new capabilities of interaction, collaboration, and learning.
- At least 1 in 5 American Adults has used or is using VR
- 150+ Million People are using an XR Solution at least once a month worldwide
- 75% of Forbes “Most Valuable Brands” are using XR
- VR For Training alone is expected to reach $4.1 Billion in investment by 2024
Active Users Segmented
We are on the cusp of a tech-driven inflection point. This year we are seeing forward-leaning companies go from a position of “help me create” to a position of delivering consistent quality, to be followed within the near term by a turn toward building applications at scale. That means that the same types of rapid changes and disruptions that occurred with businesses in all sectors with the advent of mobile phones and app markets are now on the verge of taking off in the Metaverse.
As more enterprises adopt XR platforms to reach new market segments and empower and train their employees, corporate leaders must take steps to integrate these capabilities into corporate growth strategies and also risk and regulatory management programs. Cybersecurity, privacy, inclusion, intellectual property protection, and compliance training are just a few of the areas that are set to be affected by XR applications.
The gender divide of Metaverse users is 57% men and 43% women.

Metaverse workshop for students at EDHEC
Nod-A by Sia Partners hosted a Metaverse workshop for students at EDHEC Business School.
Students were able to pitch, construct innovative solutions to business and personal issues, and collaborate with our colleagues in the US thanks to the VR room.
Sia Partners, for me, is at the forefront of those transformations to give our students a clear view of what it takes to move to this extended reality environment.
How we generate value within the Metaverse
Sia Partners has delivered high-quality metaverse experiences and applications for several fortune 500 financial services companies. As our clients begin to explore opportunities to reach new demographic segments (customer-focused engagement) and also to enhance the collaborative power of their teams (enterprise transformation), we are collaborating with top-tier technology companies, digital artists, and our own award-winning developers to build bleeding-edge virtual reality and augmented reality (“XR”) solutions.
The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed enterprises to find new ways to facilitate compliance training while pausing in-person instructor-led training. Standard remote training has often been found lacking the same levels of engagement and retention. Meanwhile, we’ve found that using XR to deploy remote, but immersive training experiences results in a 10 % improvement in information recall and costs, on average, 52 % less than all other types of training when applied to groups greater than 3,000 people. Additionally, learners report a better overall connection and confidence to the training than remote or even in-person training.
